Well, what can we say? The Independence Heritage Museum just never seems to disappoint. It is single handily the MOST physically active place we investigated as Rain City Paranormal, and by some accounts, the best around! We wanted to share this video with you and walk you through what led up to this event. To do that, I will backtrack a bit…
Previously, the Portland team that is now Rain City Paranormal, had investigated the museum on three separate occasions under a different monicker. Now because of this, we won’t be able to show the 1:30 hours of a spirit mist floating around the basement. However, we CAN tell you that the doorway, where that spirit likes to dwell, is a spot that we chose to cover due to previous activity and it appears to have payed off!
What you are seeing in the first part of the video is an uncut section of footage. Our investigators are sitting at a table to the right of the frame and the camera is facing the doorway. The hallway, where the door opens, has a wall to the left and a stairwell to the right. There is also another hallway to the right. You will, hopefully, see a strange dim anomaly, that appears to come from the stairway and crosses the doorway (even passing the frame toward the opposite wall). During this time, Greg, Curtis and myself were upstairs, across the building in a back room office, where we were packing up our gear. A guest investigator was watching the DVR and said “I think I just saw that door open”. We took a look and saw the investigators downstairs getting up to check the sounds they had heard. When we spoke to them, they said they had heard footsteps on the old, plastic covered steps (as seen above) that lead to the basement and finally, the sound of the door opening!
Now, we will be the FIRST to tell you that it was windy that night…
In fact, you will hear it announced on the audio. What is strange, is that the door was very hard to close and the wood was swollen against the frame. However, after a good pull, it does “click” closed rather firmly. (Some of us smoke, it had been “tested” often that night). Now, the door swings outward to a small cement stairwell that is surrounded by 3 1/2 foot walls. If it were a prank, I would have expected to find someone holding their newly broken ankle, after trying to get out of frame so quickly. You could assume the wind could have done it, but I would think you need quite a bit to pry it open, outward, while latched. The curtains don’t move and nobody felt any odd drafts or closed any doors, at this time. So, what about the light on the door? If you look closely, it appears and arcs by the door BEFORE the bottom edge of the door even begins to move!
Well, what about an “inside job”? Could that light be a flashlight? Judging by the output of the other IR camera to the left in the hallway and the amount of light that pours in after the door opens, the anomaly appears to be quite dim, in comparison. None of our investigators used a red LED flashlights that night (believe me, we really want some). Well, if you’ve watched the video you can see what steps we’ve taken to examine the figure that we believe we’ve caught and the voices that appear to tell what was coming next. As a team, the overall consensus seems to be that technology is here to be utilized. Much like this computer that I’m using now, it can be quite useful. (Although, Underwood typewriters are very cool looking). We simply want to ask the question to you, our friends, our peers and the curious “passer’s by”…”What do YOU think?” Any questions at all, just ask away! We are very excited to have, what we believe to be, a “Paranormal Triple Threat“!

The Pentacle Theatre, is a place of mystery and drama. It has been a community theater in Salem, Oregon since the 1950’s and has a great sense of community among the living. The dead, however, still perform here. We witnessed a dull white sphere of light go whizzing by in front of us, across the stage, where so many had performed before. We captured and female voice stating “He looked at this” as if they were trying to give us a performance to remember. Both Greg and I both witnessed this anomaly.

Now before we get ahead of ourselves, early on in the audio review, it was apparent that our presence wasn’t completely appreciated during the first 5 minutes…In this next clip, you will hear no less than 4 EVPS in a 10 second clip. At least three spirits can be counted on this track, two male and one female, which appeared at the very end. I’ve marked this clip with notes on the waveform to assist with the timing. The order I heard was “Get out”, “Get out”, “It’s nothing ” and a very stern “Get..OUT”.

Throughout this EVP session, we heard a few odd knocks and bumps, passing them off as the settling of the room. Only in the review, did we realize that we had actually heard disembodied voices that were trying to communicate with us. Let me back up, before I explain this next EVP. Behind the exterior of the Pentacle Theatre, lies a creek that is currently frozen over. Apparently, apparitions can be seen walking the woods and even the back decks at night. Here we have a spirit confessing that he lives in those very woods!
Listen closely and you can hear “I am…behind your creek.”
(NOTE: Headphones are a must!)

As we made ourselves “at home” and delved deeper into our questions, the spirits seemed to relax and participate even further.
In this clip, you can hear a spirit say “This is the perfect sitting chair”…

(NOTE: While, the quality of these clips can be harsh, but we do believe that every answer could have historical or current significance, therefore we take every measure possible to clean up and present these EVP’s.)
During this session, we had the team members radio back to determine their location, in effort to establish we had a “clean” environment for our EVP session. After our investigator, David, radio’d back to us, one of our recorder picked up this EVP of a voice saying “Who did this?“. This is what we consider a Class A, a voice that can be heard clearly without headphones.

It seemed as the session rolled on, that the spirits were getting more and more curious, as to what we were up to. One mentioned that it was touching a team members hand, although neither Greg, Bob or I noticed this at the time. This particular EVP verify’s this, as I believe we caught another female EVP saying “Let’s play with them”!
AMAZING case!! We caught a door slamming opening and slamming on it’s own on video and have some great EVP’s so far!!

HILLSBORO, Ore. – There are plenty of ghost stories to go around for Halloween, but there may one with local ties.
The charming Venetian Theater and Bistro in downtown Hillsboro has quite a history.
According to its website:
The theater portion (not including the auditorium) was originally built in 1888 to house the First National Bank of Hillsboro. In 1911, the bank moved to the Cady building on the southwest corner of Third and Main Streets.
Any building dating back to the 1880s is bound to have plenty of stories surrounding it, but the Venetian has some “special” ones.
Unexplained audible footsteps; lights and music turning on and off; the kitchen flooded with water, but nothing gets wet; whispering in an empty room; and someone who simply disappears when told that it’s closing time and time to leave.
Denzil Scheller and Saxony Peterson, the owners of the Venetian, think it’s haunted, but they don’t know why the ghosts and other unexplained goings-on are at the building that’s been around before automobiles. Scheller and Peterson invited ghost hunters with Rain City Paranormal to investigate the location.
While ghost hunting is no scientific endeavor, the investigators said there was plenty of paranormal activity going on at the Venetian.
What do you think?

While the audience watched the closing minutes of “Death of a Salesman” in The Venetian Theatre’s auditorium Saturday night, a team of paranormal investigators set up equipment, hoping to capture a performance of a different sort.
Greg Gieler, co-leader Chris York and 10 other members of Rain City Paranormal planned to spend the night in the darkened building, watching for a sign from any of the spirits that may lurk in the refurbished theater and bistro at 253 Main St.
On July 25, Gieler had led a smaller investigation at the invitation of owners Denzil Scheller and Saxony Peterson. Since the Venetian’s opening in the summer of 2008, its staff had witnessed a number of unexplainable events. Lights and music have turned on and off unassisted. Phantoms, including a gray-haired man who favors one of the auditorium’s back-row seats, have made multiple appearances.
During their summer inquiry, Gieler’s team had themselves witnessed a strange phenomenon in the projection room when the temperature rose and then fell one degree at a time upon verbal request. Also, a review of recordings had revealed voices, inaudible to those present, one clearly saying “I’m sorry…sorry.”
Based on those discoveries, an expanded team set up even more equipment for this second visit. Four infrared cameras would constantly surveil the main foyer, the auditorium, the projection room and the second floor hallway. Two team members stayed at “base camp” to monitor a computer screen and the images from those cameras.
Meanwhile the remaining 10 team members, accompanied by an Argus reporter, split into two groups and began their investigations. They carried audio recorders and K2 electromagnetic field detectors. The EMF meters would sense changes in electrical energy that paranormal investigators think may be caused by spirits. Those readings could be compared to baseline measurements collected by the team as part of their setup procedures.
One team headed to the dressing rooms beneath the stage and began the procedure that would be repeated throughout the building’s many rooms.
Everyone took a seat in the darkened room and, with the audio recorders running, identified themselves for the record. Each sound was labeled, leading to comments such as “my stomach growled” and “adjusting my seat.” The team waited for a noise no one claimed.
None came.
One by one, team members made requests in soft voices. “If you’re here, please let us know by making the lights change on that device over there with the green light,” indicating the EMF detector.
The lights didn’t waver.
They asked questions: Had the spirit worked in the theater? What was the year? Did it want the team to stay, or leave the room?
No response came.
After 20 minutes or so, the team shifted to the stage and began again.
Nothing happened. Over two-way radios, everyone agreed to meet back at the base camp.
Gieler speculated the spirits might be overwhelmed by the presence of so many people at once, so he next sent out two-person teams for another round of observations.
A team led by Chris York climbed the narrow stairway to the projection room. They began their questioning, at one point requesting the spirit tap in response. A loud thud came from below.
York descended to check if someone had banged the door at the base of the staircase. No one had. A call went out for teams in other parts of the building to repeat recent actions, while those in the projection room listened to see if those sounds reproduced what they had heard.
The thud remained unexplained, the only such event to occur during hours of close observation. The time approached 1:30 a.m.
In the next weeks, the investigators will comb through hours of film and audio recordings and use special software to search for speech concealed beyond audible frequencies.
In the meantime, the primary message from Saturday night’s long investigation was that paranormal investigations require great patience.

It is believed when an entity manifests it uses energy to do so. When doing an investigation we use an Electro Magnetic Field detector or EMF detector for short. It is believed that an EMF detector will pick up those spikes in activity. You have to be careful though because a lot of natural things can cause this. Alarm Clocks, Light Switches, Computers, Electrical Outlets and Refrigerators just to name a few. Basically anything that has a strong electrical current. It is also believed that a spirit can use the Electromagnetic Field to manifest as well. Also why people may get battery drains.
A residual haunt is something that repeats it’s self in the same manner every time it’s heard, felt, smelt, and seen. For example, at 2:35AM you hear a baby cry for a few seconds but there is no infants in the home. It’s like a tape recorder, it plays its self over and over and over again. It doesn’t have to happen every night but when it does happen it’s the same every time. This is also true with an entity, you may see a woman walk through a specific wall every time you see her, but she doesn’t pay any attention to you or maybe walks right through you and still doesn’t even pay any attention to you. That’s because it can’t see you it’s just replaying a specific moment in time.
